Mom and Tom

Today my daughter shared this Jimmy Fallon video on her FB page. I sat here crying as I watched it. Both my Mother and my Brother died of ALS. On Monday it will be 8 years since Mom died. The only thing I can be grateful about is that she never knew that my brother was also hit by this horrible disease.

One of my favorite photographs of my Mother! At Bear Lake where we spent so many wonderful summer days!

The year after she died we went up a favorite hiking trail that has a wonderful view of the lake and scattered some of her ashes there. Although we didn't know it at that time, my brother was already displaying signs of the disease. Five years later we were in the same place scattering some of Tom's ashes.

Tom's T-shirt quilt

The back of the quilt
Tom had asked me to make a T-shirt quilt from his vast race shirt collection. On the back I used fabrics that had meaning for him. Coffee, beer, Hawaii, etc. I wrote a blog post about this quilt 2 years ago.

I had intended to have a report on my boat leftovers project for Off the Wall this week. Sometimes you have to change direction at the last minute. I am thrilled with Jimmy Fallon and all those who are participating in the ice bucket challenge. I hope that it brings in a lot of donations to help find a cure for this devastating disease.

  1. They just did the ice bucket challenge on Rising Star this evening and I thought of you, Tom and your Mom. Tom's t-shirt quilt is a testament to the fabulous life he lived. (((hugs)))
