September

I did one last dye session last week. As we are in the midst of a  move, I had some leftover dyes that I wanted to use up before the final load. I do know that old dyes lose some of their umph, but sometimes that is a good thing. And I just didn't want to waste it, dyes are expensive.
Mop rag
I always put down a damp soda ashed piece of fabric when mixing my dyes to catch any stray powder. I reuse it several times and then use it to dump the dregs.  I am pleased with this one!
Forest green and yellow
I was surprised how the green looks more blue.I believe that the dye had degraded and the blue held on in the forest green. This was accordion folded and then I poured on the dyes in a ziplock bag.
Purple and yellow twist
If I were a few years older, I could have been a hippie! I love the look of tie dye. This piece was twisted and then tied in a knot before adding the dyes. The deep purple dye also degraded.
Blues dry folded
I used a piece of fabric that had previously been soda ashed and left to dry. I bi folded it and dumped on cobalt, navy blue, and the last of the deep purple.  I think this guy has possibilities of some surface design.
Blue and brown dry
Another tie dyed look. I folded this piece like you do for Hawaiian applique. I then dumped the dyes on it, in a ziplock bag. Some little bits of black, terracotta and blue (cobalt, maybe?)
Brown and gold dry folded
I folded this accordion style and then accordion folded it in the second direction.  Not sure if you can see it in this photograph, but I had dripped a bit of the deep purple on it by accident. It is about the only spot in the dye session that the purple turned out purple! Terracotta and gold. Maybe it was actually deep yellow.
Another mop rag
Another mop rag.  I also use them to wipe up the table after the dye session (I have the table covered with a plastic table cloth while dyeing)
Stacked
I finally finished stacked! I took this class at the Bryce Winter retreat, eh? 4 years ago?  My friend, Lisa B. taught it. It was fun!  She is teaching it again this year at the Utah Quilt Guild Quilt Fest in a couple of weeks. I wanted to have it finished so she could have another class sample.

So things are happening with our move and hopefully we will be home (200 miles away) in 3 weeks. Right before Quilt Fest! I will head North to the Fest and sweetie and the puppy dogs will head South to our home in Kanab. It has been a long, stressful move.  I will be glad to finally be settled and move on to the next adventure in our lives.

On my Wall this Monday

Design Wall

Project I want to focus on

More wrapped cord for a bowl

Prototype Wine Bag
For my Design Wall Monday post I pulled some more blocks out of the Sandi Cummings class bag.  It makes me wonder what happened (or didn't?) to the guy on the bottom right hand side.  It looks like he didn't get a full spa treatment during the class. I will pull out the book and reread what we did in class (it was in 2005 or so)  I really like the blocks.  I am looking forward to playing with them this week.  Check out what is on everyone else's wall at Judy's blog.

I was able to get more cording wrapped for another bowl.  One of the bowls I made last week sold.  I am also trying to get wine bottle gift bags made.  I sewed a prototype and it needs some tweaking.  I also made a pouch which I filled with a bunch of goodies for the Quilters Blog Hop Party!  Over 150 blogs are hosting giveaways!  My giveaway is in this post.

Starting off the week right!

I listed another dish cloth pattern.  This one is a variation on my Simple Straight Knit Dish Cloths pattern.  It is named Simple Straight Knit Textures Dish Cloths.  It is available for  99 cents at my Craftsy shop and also on my Ravelry pattern shop.  There are 4 different patterns included. I will have one more in this series of patterns, Simple Straight Knit Reversible Textures Dish Cloths.  It should be ready next week.

Another great start to my week, one of my fabric yarns is featured in an Etsy Treasury!

Pinned, kicking and screaming

My latest bowl.
I have resisted the Pinterest addiction.  My friend had sent me several invites over the last few months.  I figured that I didn't need one more mindless thing to suck my time away. Because seeing how many projects that I am never going to knit were on my Ravelry queue, I knew that it would be overflowing and out of control in no time. So last week I had listed a couple of patterns on Craftsy, and said friend pinned them.  Then reported to me how they were being re-pinned all over the place.  And still I resisted. On Craftsy, I could see the pins on the patterns.  Quite cool actually to see the numbers go up.  Then the pins didn't show up for several days.  I was worried.  Was it because I wasn't on Pinterest?  Did everyone unpin my patterns?  What could be up with that?  So I made friend walk me through setting up a Pinterest account. Why did I have so much trouble?  Was it because I am blonde? Over 50? Stupid? Clueless? All of the above?  Or maybe because I had resisted so long?  I don't know. It did take me way longer than it should have to figure it out. And I am not going to get sucked into pinning everything/one and their dog.  Really, I won't.  So far, so good.  24 hours and I only have pinned my stuff and said friend's stuff.

Check out my latest bowl/basket in my Etsy shop!  I went over to a friend's yard and rephotographed a lot of my bowls. I think that they show much better now!

A New Adventure!

 41"x47"
There are 2 of the blue and yellow bowls.
Scrappy bowl.

I finally put together an Etsy shop!  I had been considering it for a while.  I have a few more quilts and other items that will be listed next week.  Please take a look and let me know what you think of the layout and descriptions.  I would appreciate any feedback you might have for me.

Thanks.
Sylvia
