Is It Really August!?

I wrapped more cord for bowls.

Marcia's tumbling blocks, waiting for a border.

Marcia's Block of the Month.

Surprise!  Blocks from my Beginning Paper Piecing class!

Disappearing Nine Patch.

Nine Patch.

We had to put sew day on hold for a couple of weeks. First Marcia was out of town for a family reunion, and then I was out of town for a family party!  Funny thing is that we both went to the same lake!  But we were not there at the same time.

Marcia worked on a block for a block of the month that a nearby shop is hosting.  It is going to be a very lovely quilt.  Black and white with an accent of deep purple.  She showed me a disappearing nine patch that she has in progress.  Looking through her cutting table, I found some blocks from a class that I taught at a retreat a couple of years ago!  They are just sample blocks to learn the technique.

Since I have finished the T-shirt quilt, I am trying to get some order in the studio.  So I brought a pile of strips (clearing stuff off the cutting table) and wrapped cord for two bowls.  I have a project with a deadline that I really need to get going on.  I can't show photos right now, but will later in the year.  Now to go back to the studio and get some more cleared off the cutting table!

Sew Day

6 Micro Potato Bags!

Close up of Potato Bag.

Marcia's table runner.

My pile of cut up t-shirts.
My gang has missed sew day for a couple of weeks. Sherre and her husband have left with their RV to Georgia for a year.  Today Marcia came over and we had a cutting day.  She cut out a table runner and I was cutting out t-shirts for a quilt.  Marcia had finished the binding on our baby quilt, but I forgot to take a photo.  Marcia had to leave early, so no lunch.  We will be hostessing the quilt show on Friday.

On another note, there is a huge wildfire burning about 20 miles north of here.  Quite a few structures have burned to the ground, but I haven't heard how many families have lost homes.  There has been one death, no details on that yet.  Luckily the wind hasn't been blowing the smoke in our direction, but unluckily, the wind has made the fire worse.

Sew Day

Marcia finished her Twister quilt!

She did some lovely free motion quilting in the pinwheels!

Also in the border!

She can't decide whether to add more quilting to the Owl and Tree quilt.

Beautiful Orchid on Marcia's counter!

Marcia's delicious chicken salad for lunch!

We were able to get all the blocks sewn for the baby quilt.
Another productive sew day!  Marcia's house this week.  She had her twister quilt hanging on the railing to dry.  It turned out really cute!  The 3 of us worked together on the baby quilt.  Marcia and Sherre were on the sewing machines and I was pressing and cutting.  We were able to get all the blocks sewn.  There are just two seams left to have the top finished.  The bobbin was acting up, so we decided that meant it was time to stop.

Sew Day!

 Fabrics for the baby quilt.
Strips all cut!
 Marcia's Owl quilt top.
 French knot eyes.
My wrapped clothesline cord.
Delicious salad with whole grain carrot muffin.
 Rhubarb Cake

Another fun Tuesday Sew Day!  We were at Sherre's house this week. We are starting a group project, a baby quilt for our neighbor who is expecting a little boy in July.  We gathered from our stashes some possibly fabrics and then decided that the bright colors would work well with a white on white background.  After Marcia finished her French knot owl eyes, she cut strips for the baby quilt.  Sherre was trying to finish the border on her strip quilt.  I was able to wrap clothesline cord for 3 small bowls.

Sherre made a wonderful green salad.  Homemade pickled beets, tomatoes, avocado and carrots.  She also served a carrot muffin as a side.  And a rhubarb cake with rhubarb and mixed berry sauce!

If it is Tuesday, it must be Sew Day!

Sherre worked on tacking down the binding on the pastel quilt.
She also added borders to the strip quilt.
Marcia started to sew her owl blocks together.
 Jicama salad
 Mango, apple and strawberries.
Healthy lunch!

Another fun sew day!  We were at my house this week.  The puppies still stink a bit, but it is getting better.  So I opened the windows for air and also had pet freshed the carpet before the gang arrived.  I made a jicama salad. It was served with a sliced fresh tomatoes.  I cut up some fresh fruit and served it with some of my homemade yogurt.  I had worked on wrapping more clothesline cord for another basket.  I forgot to take a photo.  A good day!

Sew Day!

Sherre had this quilt out for auditioning borders.  She had learned of the pattern while at Quartszite this winter.  It is a freebie at  3 dudes quilting.
Sherre sewed the binding on her Ashley's Journey quilt.  It is from a Pie Plate Patterns book.  I think it is in the first Piece of Pie.
Marcia trimmed her owl and tree blocks.  It is a kit from Connecting Threads.  She did a great job on the buttonhole stitch by machine!
I sewed down the binding on a broken dishes wall hanging.  I also got the label and sleeve sewn.
Marcia also had her apple quilt top out.  I think she had planned to piece the backing.

Marcia was also working on her blocks for the block of the month club.

Sherre worked on her Twister quilt top after she had finished the binding.

Marcia made a veggie soup in her fancy pants blender.  Along with her favorite lemon slushy and a
3-2-1 cake for each of us.

Back when I was still living in Sacramento, some friends liked to get together for a Sew Day every week.  When I moved back to Utah, I really missed Sew Days.  A couple of my new friends and I started to do Sew Days. They kind of tapered off and eventually we weren't doing them at all.  About a month ago, while we were at Curves and we talked about missing Sew Days and how we should do it again.  So we did!  We are rotating houses, so this was to be my week.  Unfortunately my Peaty and Eddy had gone on a hike with their Dad on Saturday and got skunked!  So my house is still a bit on the smelly side.  So Marcia was kind enough to volunteer her house for this week.  A good time was had by all!
