Snowing March

I can finally show a piece that I made for the Stretching Art and Tradition 18 challenge! Dream Big (which I thought was Dream On, but whatever works) was this year's theme.

Clouds in my Coffee
My first thought when I heard the theme was the Carly Simon song lyrics "Clouds in my Coffee". So that is what I did. The above photograph is more true to the colors. But...
Another shot
I like the shot of this piece against the wood fence.  I used one of my hand dyed fabrics for the background and fused the coffee and cup using some of my batik fabrics. I used some tulle for the steam/clouds.

Middle March

Ready for border
I completed the in progress quilt top for demo'ing in class! I am happy with the result! It will get a border using the dark print. I am hoping that it will hold that yellow in a bit.
Dinosaur tracks
Sweetie and I took the dogs on a hike this week. We are so lucky to have some wonderful trails near our new home. A spur off the Bunting trail led to some dinosaur tracks. It was very cool to see!
My cactus/herb garden
I miss my herb garden from the old house. We don't have much accomplished with the yard at the new house yet. We have a start of a cactus garden. We love old rusty junk. So I decided to plant some herbs in pots until I figure out exactly where the herb garden will be located. I stuck the pots in the cactus garden for now.  The rock bird is "Louie". My Dad made him for me years ago. I had him in the house, but we rearranged the furniture and I moved him outside where he was intended to be.

Retreating

Block of the month
The week started off with my local quilt guild meeting. I am in charge of the Block of the Month this year. We have a lot of participation and here is last month's block.
Sandy's project
I am at the annual Pie Plate Patterns Super Spring retreat! It is a blast! Upstairs in the open sew area Sandy pulled out this project to work on. It was from a class I taught in 2011 at the Quilt Walk festival!
My project to work on at the retreat
And guess what I happened to bring along to finish? One of my sample tops from that class!
All quilted
I completed the quilting yesterday. I was able to get it trimmed and today it will get its binding.
Glamour shot
Birthday cake!
Yesterday was my birthday. My dear friend Helen brought a delicious almond cake for me! Everyone sang to me! It was very special! I love these wonderful women! I am glad that I was able to come to this retreat and visit with my good friends.
Downtown Fountain Green
This is on a building in Fountain Green. It is an amazing metal sculpture!

Marching along

Serita sample
I always like to have an in progress sample for my classes. I selected these 3 fabrics to use in my Serita class next week at the Pie Plate Super Spring Retreat. I haven't decided which variation to make, but will be cutting it this weekend.
UFO
I decided it was time to finish a UFO. This guy is pin basted and ready to quilt. Hopefully I can get him finished so I can work on the binding at guild on Tuesday.
